Tea in Lacock / weekend in Wales

At last, it was the bank holiday weekend!  We decided to head to Wales for a couple of days, just to get away from the City and enjoy the countryside scenery and some hearty Welsh food.

En route, we decided to take lunch somewhere half way between London and Swansea.  The Boyfriend had planned the whole journey and he picked a country pub called The George Inn in a little village near Chippenham.  When we got there, we realised the village is called Lacock.  ‘LA cock?  How did you find this place?’  was the question put to the Boyfriend who sheepishly insisted it was the first pub near Chippenham  that Google suggested.  Yea right, more like immaturity I’d say.

The village itself, however, was beautiful – full of traditional grade 1 listed houses and country landscapes.    After lunch we decided to explore the village and visit the many craft stores in the area.  After working up an appetite, we stopped at a little tea room for some afternoon tea and homemade cakes.  I apologise to my readers but I can’t remember for the life of me what the tea house was called.  I do remember, however, was that the cakes were on display all looked scrumptious!  In the end, we chose the apple crumble, and a basket of scones with clotted cream and homemade jam to share.

I wish we could’ve stayed there for the whole weekend and just eating homemade cakes all day, but I was overruled and we drove on and made it to our B&B in Gower in the late afternoon.

The B&B looked extremely picturesque with its long country drive way and manicured lawns and horse paddocks by the side.

The next day was spent hiking around the area and taking a long walk along the three cliffs beach before spending the evening in a pub in Mumbles, the nearest town, tucking into Welsh lamb shanks and blasting out Mariah Carey’s Ken Lee (…. tulibu dibu douchoo!)  on the pub’s Karaoke system.  All in all a great weekend!
